You Know You're Preparing for a Mission When:

1. You dream about a TV show you've been watching on Netflix, and in your dream, you convert all the characters.

Yeah. I did that.

2. And if you try to tie Disney movies into the gospel.

Did that too.

But it got me thinking... Why NOT tie Disney movies into the gospel? When I'm on my mission I still want to be me, because somebody out there needs me, not a robot missionary. Nobody really needs a robot missionary. Personality is important! And I feel like I wouldn't be me without my love for Disney.

I don't know for sure, but maybe someday I can use a Disney movie to teach a gospel principle to one of my investigators. Maybe that's just what somebody will need. Maybe.

Is that appropriate do you think? To teach using Disney movies? I think it would be great! And I'd have great Family Home Evenings for when I have cute little kids of my own! ...Right?

Well I think it's a good idea! And even though I'm going to be Sister Francis for 18 months, I don't want to be a robot missionary. I want to be me! Because the Lord called me to Indiana Indianapolis because somebody out there needs me not a robot with no personality.

Use the Internet for Good!

As you all know, I've been preparing for my mission, and you know what today is? The 50 day mark! 50 days until I get to report as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to represent Jesus Christ as I teach the people in the Indiana Indianapolis Mission.
And I am so excited!

As I've been preparing, I've been reading through what feels like thousands of blogs, posts, groups, general conference talks... You name it, I've probably read it. Seriously though.

And you guys, you may not have ever realized this, but the internet is FULL of spiritual stuff. Literally full of it! I'll be browsing facebook and find one thing, that leads to another. Really, surfing the internet for spiritual treasures is pretty much my life. I don't know if that counts and preparing for my mission, but I love it. And I say it is preparing, it's strengthened my testimony so much.

Some of my favorites to read are current missionary blogs and RM blogs. But the reason I'm writing this at all is because of a blog I found of a convert. She is the cutest girl I've ever seen. I love the way she thinks, she has so much enthusiasm for the gospel. She reminds me of me. Her blog is In The Head of Al Fox and I strongly suggest reading it. It feels so good to read! And I love her conversion story, and the way that she expresses her testimony helps me strengthen MINE.

Just so I don't leave any of the others out, I've also been faithfully reading Bella In BerlinHipster RM, Elder Daniel Squires, and Sister Hayley.

Missionary blogs are some of my favorites because that is what I'm going to be doing in just a few months. And their stories are going to be like the ones I will experience. And it's going to be worth it.

Other things that I do on the internet that I count as mission prep are watch Mormon Messages which I highly recommend to anybody!  They are so uplifting and really teach you a lot. I also read and listen to Conference Talks, mostly about missionary work, but also of the Atonement.

Speaking of General Conference, we have it this weekend! And I am so excited. I have been praying for some personal answers in the Conference, and I have a feeling that they will come. Conference is really my favorite weekend. Especially the April Conference. I feel like I learn so much and gain so much insight. I kind of wish we could have it more often. I challenge you all to watch all the sessions of General Conference. And ladies? When it comes out, you should also watch Priesthood Session. Much of the lessons learned in Priesthood Session can really uplift your life. Pray about it! Don't just watch it because you should. If you're going to do it anyway, you might as well make it matter! Pray for answers to something you might be struggling with right now. Or for comfort. Pray for whatever you need. God is listening!

I hope you all enjoy General Conference this weekend as much as I do. And really, go to some of the websites I said I read, they will benefit your life too. I have links on each of them.

Not only are there great things on the internet, but with today's society it is so easy to share the spirit to hundreds or thousands of people at once! Try using the internet for good too. Maybe share something once a week on the internet to uplift and edify those that you love! If you don't have any ideas of how to do this, here are the ones I have:

  • Write a quick testimony on your facebook status
  • Blog your testimony
  • Click the "Share" button on your favorite Mormon Message
  • Share your favorite Conference talk
  • Post your favorite scripture of the week
  • Tweet about the Church!
  • Express love for the people in your life through status' or tweets
Will you try it? Just once a week you Use the Internet for Good! I guess it's just my missionary brain working here, but there really are people that are looking for a change in their life. They are looking for the gospel. And if you have it, share it!

I will if you will!
