Adventures

Dear Friends and Family,

It's been a long, long week. It seems that all the weeks that we don't have a car just drag on and on and on... I know my statistics teacher always said that correlation does not equal causation, but I think in this case, it does!

 biggest waterfall in Indiana ;)

We had the hardest time finding rides anywhere to anything! We almost didn't even find a ride to church! That's when you know it's rough. We cancelled a few appointments because of it, but we still got some things done.

We had one day that was kind of an emotional rollercoaster. We were trying to find a ride to a lesson because everyone had told us no, and a couple of hours before, we found someone! So then we were happy, and SUPER GRATEFUL, that God had blessed us with a way to get to this lesson. And then, an hour or so later, she texted saying she forgot an obligation that she had and she wasn't going to make it. So then we were bummed, or at least I was. I'm sure Sister Faleono felt the same way. And THEN we had a lesson with another investigator at Sister Steadman's home for lunch. We showed up a little early to talk about the lesson, but then time passed and passed and passed and the investigator didn't show up! We began eating and she showed up about 20 minutes late. I was at first disappointed, but then excited that she actually came! So there were a lot of ups and downs that day.

We've been walking a lot again this week. That can get kind of discouraging because the places we can go and the people we can see are pretty limited. But it all will work out in the end, I'm sure! I guess Heavenly Father wants to help me get skinny, like I wanted! I don't mind, but this week my feet kind of started to hurt a little. My toe started hurting for no good reason! That's annoying too. And it's difficult since I walk on my toes all the time!

We have a baptism coming up this Saturday! There have been lots of scheduling conflicts with this one. We're going to have to go to a different church building, but we are going to make this baptism happen! I'm really excited about it! And I know Ethan is excited too! He talks about it ALL the time to everyone he knows!

Look how creative I can be! We were learning to be missionaries

At the Trunk or Treat this Saturday there was a family that borrowed an actual Dolorian from someone they knew and came to the Trunk or Treat dressed like that kid from Back to the Future. Talk about going all out! That was so fun to see! I went as Minnie Mouse. I didn't really wear it, though. I always am worried about making sure I look "dignified" or whatever. I know some people would love it, but then I'm sure there are some stuffy people who would just think I was being ridiculous. So I don't know... I will be Minnie at District Meeting for Halloween, though! Maybe. We'll see! Thanks to my awesome Aunt who made Minnie Mouse ears for me, though! :) They are awesome!

Also, this 17 or 18 year old girl in the ward asked us the other day if we had ever been on the internet... Uh. Yeah.... Haha. She meant to ask if we'd ever been "internet people" who know "internet stuff", which is also a yes! It's funny, we aren't really that much older than her! That was seriously the funniest question, especially from a member!

So, yeah! I've been on the internet!

Love you, Sister Kimberly

Meeting or Moroni?

Dear Friends and Family,

It's been a really good week! Last Monday, the members we ate dinner with informed us that there was a tornado watch out. A tornado watch isn't bad, but if it becomes a warning, that's when you need to be careful. So later that night, another member texted us saying there was a watch, but that the worst of it would be at midnight or 1 am. My bed is right underneath the window, and I was worried if that really did happen and the window blew in, it would probably not be very good for me. So we moved my bed and put a mattress in front of the window! Haha, it was kind of silly! But, hey, the window didn't blow in and I didn't get hurt or killed! I'm convinced that our preparations helped ;)

I have had a really fun time teaching Ethan! This week we had some seemingly boring lessons to teach, like Family History and Word of Wisdom, and those things aren't that exciting for a 10 year old boy. So we had to put our creative caps on and figure out how to keep his attention and help Ethan think that these things are fun! And it worked! We've had a lot of fun! One of the days, we actually had a friend of his from church come and help us teach. This 9 year old boy was seriously probably one of the best members I've ever had at a lesson. He really helped us TEACH and he helped us stay on track... Man. That was the coolest thing! And Ethan loved it too! He's definitely going to get baptized soon, and he is so excited!
This week we had a lesson with someone, we brought a member like we were supposed to, but all that did was cause the person we were teaching to not listen to us. I don't know. I think some people think that we're young and we don't know anything. And, I agree, we are young, and no, we probably don't know a lot about some of the things going on in people's lives, but we also aren't dumb! The principles of the gospel are one-size-fits-all and I KNOW the principles of the gospel! But it's okay, it still turned out to be a good lesson. I was just a little upset.

On a brighter note! We were having a District Meeting on Friday, and every time we drive to the church, we drive past the temple. Everyone's been talking about a Moroni lately, but it's also been a secret about WHEN they were going to put it up. Everyone just kept saying "look for the crane!" We drove past, and there was definitely a crane there to lift Moroni up. The only problem was that we had to get the Sisters we share a car with and get to our meeting. So we picked them up, told them about it, and drove to the church. The second we unlocked the door, we got a call saying that everyone was at the temple watching them put up Moroni. So... We raced over there. Now that I can look back, I don't know why we raced, but we did. And we watched the Moroni go up, which took forever! So it kind of replaced District Meeting. I mean, we still had a quick one. But it definitely wasn't a normal meeting. That's okay, that was a really cool experience to have. And we got our District picture at the temple!! You don't see that every day either!
So it's been a good week! Transfers are this week, but Sister Faleono and I are both staying. Together! In Westfield! Looks like I'm dying happy :)

Love you,
Sister Kimberly

Meet the Mormons

Dear Friends and Family,

Well, if you didn't get to see Meet the Mormons, you're really missing out! It was so good! Or I might just think that since it's pretty much the only movie I've seen in more than 16 months! But, still. It was good.We got treats and everything! No popcorn, though. I was really hoping for popcorn. But it was great, because we got a sneak preview of it on Wednesday, two days before it even came out! Missionary = VIP!

Other than that, this week has been kind of slow. Not for a lack of trying! We probably actually stopped and talked to more people this week than we have in the weeks prior, but no one really let us keep talking long enough to teach or say anything about the church, really! That's always a bummer. But let me tell you what, I love talking to people! Some are nice, some are mean, but I just love talking to them!

The temple is coming along great! They could be putting in the Angel Moroni statue any day now, really! I'm excited to see it!

It rained a lot this week and we didn't have a car. That also might have something to do with how slow it's been. I even left my umbrella at a member's house, so that wasn't the most useful thing... Haha, and going out in the pouring rain without an umbrella is not really the most effective activity either. So that was rough. But we have some really good plans for this week!

We got to teach Ethan, the 10 year old, the commandments using hand signals to remember them. It was so fun! And his older brother, Kyle, loved it too! Kyle is pretty handicapped, but he is literally the cutest kid ever. I love him! He's so sweet! When we got to number four, he was like, "oh my gosh, that's a lot!" Yup! It is a lot of commandments!

We had a zone meeting and one of the Zone Leaders asked me to give a training. It's dumb, because he only asked me because he thinks I'm an "old missionary" or something. So I planned a little bit, and then President gave basically the exact same training as I planned right before we watched Meet the Mormons. So. He stole my ideas. That was pretty lame!! But I gave it anyway, and it didn't matter because it seemed like no one in the zone was listening. Everyone has been getting a little too relaxed about the work lately. But whatever, I can't control them!

And last of all, we had a miracle on Saturday!! Tori got baptized!! We miraculously found a ride to Plainfield and we were able to go see it! And I'm so happy. It's been a journey getting her here, but I'm glad because I know she's committed! And I love her lots!! :) I will send a picture, because a picture is worth a thousand words!

Love you, Tori!! <3 (PS I don't know if people still use this less than three thing to make hearts. I hope this doesn't make me look lame.)

My face felt like it was melting...

Me and my Baby Girls!

Hopefully I have more to say next week!

Love, Sister Kimberly
